Bench

A public installation meant to integrate, not impose.

This was a group project done in part by Ricardo Lucero, Jacob McMullen, and myself.

Inspiration

The piercing nature of the cloud through the mountains was what drew me to this imagery during the design process.

Ricardo Lucero is the strongest sketcher in the group, so he and I brainstormed while putting things on paper and I directed him along the way.

It was hard trying to figure out proportions on paper so we collectively made some scale mock ups from wood and clay. One of my mockups was further developed in SolidWorks.

I find it to be rather awkward sitting on a bench with strangers, so I sought to remedy that. I came up with a seating arrangement that would allow a group of three to comfortably socialize, or allow that third person to be seated to the side in order to distance themselves from the others.

The Keyshot renders done by Jacob integrated the intended materials in order to pull our design together
